Well, that's shitty.
I wonder how often this happens on Navy ships.

my parents and grandparents went on a cruise to the west Caribbean earlier this month, said the ship had many people quarantined to their rooms. it was the princess line of cruises, they didn't even get to make all their stops. glad i didn't go.

I've been on 5 cruises and always had a good time with no issues.

I have never gone on a cruise. My wife has TRIED to get me to go, but nope. Don't wanna.
I'm sure it would be fine. The engine wouldn't catch fire, we wouldn't get sick, and it would be a whole lot of fun...
But NOPE.

I never heard of it happening while I was in. VDs were very prevalent after port calls though.

I know the feeling completely!
I went on my first cruise in November. We were on the Carnival Splendor for a week and I only found out on our the 2nd day that it had a major fire a few years ago. It cut all electrical power and required assistance from the US Navy to give the ship supplies.
The following morning after learning about the incident, a generator failed causing some toilets not being able to refill after flushing for a few hours (possibly cut power to water pumps?). They swapped out the entire generator once arriving at our first stop (Port Canaveral, Florida). The disconnected, swapped out the old generator for a new one, and reconnected it in less than 2 hours.
Those generators were
HUUUUUUGE
! I give them credit for being able to do repairs so quickly. However, while the repairs happened, we were not able to get off the ship because there were no Customs services on our side of the Port. We had to wait an extra hour or so to swing into another dock which cut into our time in Florida.
I also ate some bad yogurt which caused me to throw up and get really sick the morning of leaving the ship to go home. That was probably the worst!
I enjoyed my trip very much but I would not do it again any time soon. I feel like when on that cruise, I was rushed. You only had 8 hours or so while at a port to experience a certain place (which is no where near enough time to enjoy it imo) before boarding and heading off somewhere else.
My favourite warm getaways will always be all-inclusive resorts. Cruises are just
wayyy
too expensive imo.
TLDR: Cruises are expensive and not for everyone. Doing it at least once is definitely an experience however.

I am the same. I have no desire to cruise.

I went on a cruise in 2006 and let me tell you it was perhaps one of the best vacations I've had. Food was good, people were cool, drinks were strong and no massive viral outbreaks.
Don't knock it until you try it! The sky at night was one of the most awe inspiring things I've ever experienced, stars as far as the eyes can see. Next time I go I want to bring a telescope.
Also the vastness of the ocean you see when you're on a cruise, that shit is insane, some mornings you could barely see 300 feet ahead of you the clouds would literally seem to touch the water. How people could have navigated back before modern technology blows my mind.
